How TikTok Can Help Promote Brands

Grace Jeselson

The social media app, TikTok, has taken the world by storm in the last two years! Now, it is more important than ever to use TikTok to your company’s advantage and start posting to promote your business.

Ever heard of the phrase, “don’t judge a book by its cover?” Well, I am here to tell you to not judge TikTok until you try it! You might think TikTok is just another social media app focused on Generation Z and teenagers dancing in crop tops, and while there is some truth to that, there is more to it. TikTok is a platform where users can post short videos of up to three minutes for free. There are over 800 million active users on the app, and many of those have gone ‘viral.’ Some have even been able to make a living off the app. TikTok is another great way to gain a following and promote different parts of your business. People that have already taken part in this have been able to see significant increases in their businesses and the production cost is zero. Here are some ways that TikTok can help brands do better in the social media space!

Younger audience:

Yes, most people on TikTok are young. However, that does not mean they are not interested. There are all different types of people in the world, and chances are someone is going to have an interest in what you’re promoting. If they are, they will probably send it around to their friends who they think will also be interested. As a business, you should not ignore TikTok because its community has a lot of young people. After all, Facebook was started for college students and look at what it has turned into.

Keep it light and be creative:

The thing that makes TikTok stand out is how its users are authentic, show their true personality, and don’t try to fit a certain aesthetic that users on other platforms might. It is important to keep the content light, entertaining, useful, and most of all, creative. This is not the platform where you need to be perfect, because people can’t relate to perfect. People relate to others that they feel are real and genuine and TikTok thrives on that concept.

Pay attention to trending music and sounds:

A big part about TikTok is the music and sounds available to use and create with. Some very popular songs at the moment become trendy on the app, along with certain things people have said (those are sounds). It is important to use the songs and sounds that are trending and base your content around those. When people search for the song they want, they can see thousands of videos that were created with it, including yours.

Collab with others:

Yesterday we posted all about different ways brands can succeed in influencer marketing. It was mostly based around Instagram, however, there are now influencers specifically focused on TikTok. Why not partner with them? It can be a good way to learn more about the space from someone who understands it already, while promoting your business. It will also drive engagement and awareness of your brand to people who might not have heard about it already.
